In 2019-2020, CFC families participated in Kids Can Create, which focused on the creation and engineering design process. During each class, families participated in activities that promote spatial reasoning. Development of spatial reasoning in early childhood and primary grades predicts success in the areas of STEM and Literacy. The ability to mentally picture and transform objects promotes number sense development, word recognition, and problem solving.¹

Class 1: Explore

Families explored creation using three materials. Each task involved manipulating 3D materials using different 2D drawings, images, and perspectives.

Class 2: Design

Families worked together to convert the hand-drawn picture into pixel art. Following that task, families
created blueprints of the 3D structure they would create during Class 3.

Class 3: Build

Families created the design developed during Class 2 using Legos. Once families completed their structure, they added it to the CFC Kids Can Create Mosaic. Each phase of the creation process is included in the student online portfolio.
